the water was parting around me.

Heavy darkness and the desert
my soul was mute and awestruck.

And terrified I waited for my disjointed boat
to be crushed by the terrible surf.

We must be sentenced to be
permanently on the brink of eternity
and still not plunge
into the abyss.

Before the sunny day's end,
I was sitting beside an open window with a book in my hand.
